If we could only find a market for icicles: This year's crop has been stupendous. Teeth-like collections hanging from eaves, huge gothic ornaments beside porch gables and mushrooming outgrowths from eavestroughs and downspouts.
All very dramatic, but now that the long, slow (we hope), melt has begun the damage is starting to show. I fear many members will be 'Asking Around' for roofing help in the coming weeks. Its a busy category anyway: If you own a North American home you probably own shingles and they will need replacing sooner than you would like.
My last roofing contractors were chosen because they were cheap. Unwise but unavoidable and the job played out exactly as one would expect. The flashing was faulty; the job was not completed (our garage roof still needs replacing); and the noise and aggravation were awful. We did some things right: lots of vents in our oddly shaped roof space and good quality shingles that seem to be lasting, but when this job comes around again my approach will be different.
So . . . can you recommend a Roofer, or do you have your own horror story to share? I'm sure roofing contractors are booking up fast this season so please let me know who you do,or don't recommend. Enter cogs code 10 20 20 when you post your recommendation and your cogs box will get 100 extra points!
Tell us about a Roofing Contractor . . . remember code 10 20 20 in the top right corner for extra cogs.

Wow!
I just told my neighbour about a missing vent cover on her roof, and Sanderson Roofing showed up within an hour. This is a contractor to watch for: I will ask her for a recommendation asap!

Indeed, looking for a roofer to take care your roof in that situation is the better idea. It would be hard to remove those frozen debris from your roof just by yourselves.
